Writing Center: The Writing Center, located at 33 E. Congress, is an excellent resource for all of you! I encourage you all to go there and discuss your work with the tutors. I also strongly encourage you to go during the brainstorming and organizing of your paper. Talking with a consultant about what you want to write and how you will write it will make it easier to draft your paper. At the beginning of the session, you will be asked to fill out a drop-in form. Be sure to tell the consultant that you would like a copy sent to me so that I can be aware of your visit.

I encourage everyone to spend a minimum of one hour per week at Columbia College’s Writing Center during the development of your two essays.. You can register for a standing weekly appointment with a writing consultant by stopping in and making the appointment. You may also drop in at other times if you find you want further assistance with your paper. Writing consultants can help you develop a paper idea, organize your a paper, or understand your reading.

Each report:
a. Is set in 10/12pt. Helvetica, spell checked and saved in InDesign CX.
b. Should measure 22 Picas wide and 45 Picas deep (400 words) and have the name of the typographer and birthdate at the top and name of writer imediately underneath.
c. Must have one 30P wide x 52P deep, 300 DPI Photoshop TIFF and its caption saved in the text document. (Note: It is not possible to turn a 72 dpi jpeg into a 300 dpi TIFF without incurring bit mapping. It will look like you don't know what you are doing and it compromises the quality of the book when you or anyone else tries to print it. Also, it detracts from your grade.)
d. Must have one 22P wide x  at least 22P deep, 300 DPI Photoshop TIFF and its caption saved in the text document.
e. Each report should be in a folder labeled: TYPOGRAPHER'S LAST NAME/Writer's last name. The folder should include the two separate TIFFS as separate documents. Captions for the TIFFS must be included on the text documents.
