Designed and built with web standards.
This website uses XHTML 1.0 Strict structural coding with full Cascading Style Sheet (CSS) presentational control. While it took quite a few days to get IE for the PC to present the layout properly, most other contemporary web browsers embrace the efficiency of web standard coding. Web standards help make the web a much more friendly, functional, and usable place for all web users and designers. Hopefully, eventually, all browsers will display web standard code with proper respect for the guidelines. Learn more about web standards at the World Wide Web Consortium and A List Apart.
Designed and developed by
halfofone in February of 2005, Debra Riley Parr's freshly redesigned website now utilizes Blogger for her course blogs and CSS for presentation.
Typography
Debra Riley Parr and the left column section titles are set in Democratica bold by Miles Newlyn. The navigation buttons are set in Adrian Frutiger's Avenir. The font family set in the CSS for the this website is as follows: geneva, "Lucida Grande", lucida, verdana, helvetica, arial, sans-serif.
This website utilizes scaling typography for maximum display consistency among browsers and platforms. Instead of strictly designating pixel sizes, which causes inconsistent browser display issues, the initial size for the entire website is set with a percentage. Then all typography is specified in em's. For instance, a paragraph with a smaller font uses a CSS font size specification of .9em. A title tag may specify the font size as 1.6em.
