National Iraq Pledge of Resistance Activated
Nonviolent CD actions planned in Philadelphia (PA), Pittsburgh (PA), Erie (PA), Charlotte (NC), Durham (NC), Hartford (CT), Athens (OH), St. Louis (MO), Austin (TX) with Dozens of Cities to Follow in Mass National Noncooperation


In the past 5 days, nonviolent civil disobedience actions opposing war have taken place in 12 different cities, with hundreds arrested. In response to President Bush’s 48 hour deadline for war, the Iraq Pledge of Resistance network of 55 cities has been activated - nine are responding with immediate actions, with dozens more to follow in the coming days.

According to Gordon Clark, National Coordinator of the Iraq Pledge of Resistance, "Mr. Bush is choosing to ignore world opinion by launching an illegal, immoral and unjust war, and the Iraq Pledge of Resistance is rising up to meet this challenge. We refuse to sit idly by while this Administration flouts international law and kills thousands of innocent civilians - we will do everything in our power to promote nonviolent noncooperation with this war in the coming days and weeks.."
