Columbia College Chicago Arts/Florence Summer Program
Summer 2002 and 2004 Course Description

This was a undergraduate/graduate level course in printmaking and bookmaking taught at Santa Reparata in Florence, Italy. Students learned the art of creating images that were etched into copper plates, cut into wood or cut out of book board and then printed on the local printmaking papers and bound up with very famous Fabriano end sheets and Florentine marbled papers. Students learned to make prints and make books using prints as well as choose papers, design books, set type and build archival boxes.  We took field field trips to Sienna, San Gimignano, and Rome as well as to some of the famous printshops and bookmakers of Florence. Students explored a number of the rich, visual resources in a city both modern and medieval, including many of the world famous museums and galleries that have attracted artists for centuries.

Admission to this 3-credit hour, 3000/5000 level course will be based upon completion of two semesters of drawing, Introduction to Graphic Design and/or by permission of the instructor.
